What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that treats the whole person, helping to strengthen the immune system.
The body has the capability to heal itself and homeopathic remedies work by stimulating this natural healing
power. This means that fewer ailments are suffered and recovery from any future illness is quicker.
What to expect during a homeopathic consultation
The first consultation lasts for one and a half to two hours. The homeopath needs to know about your medical
history, some details about your life and the experiences that you have had, as well as your symptoms. This
enables them to understand you as an individual and to look for the root of the problem. A remedy will then
be found that fits you as an individual and your symptom picture.
This is why homeopathy is described as treating the whole person, not just the disease. Getting to the root
of the problem means that the body no longer needs to produce symptoms to get your attention, so the symptoms
disappear.
After the consultation the information you have given will be carefully considered, then the appropriate remedy
will be sent to you by post.
Follow up appointments are made according to your needs, to see how you responded to the remedy and for both
you and the homeopath to assess your progress. These appointments last for up to 45 minutes.
All consultations are confidential.
What can homeopathy treat?
Homeopathy can treat all kinds of ill health, from that undefined feeling of being under the weather to serious
illness.
For example:
- Coughs and colds, flu
- Recurrent and childhood illnesses
- Gout, joint pain, repetitive strain injury
- Headaches, migraine
- Eczema, asthma, hay fever
- Fears, anxiety, anger, stress
- Emotional and physical trauma, shock
- Infertility, hormonal imbalances, thyroid disorders
- Irritable bowel syndrome, colitis
Homeopathic remedies are not addictive and do not cause side effects.
Homeopathy and conventional medicine
There is no need to avoid using homeopathy at the same time as conventional medicine, because these two
systems of medicine can work well alongside one another. For example, broken bones need to be attended
to conventionally, but taking homeopathic remedies as well can aid recovery and help the bones to knit
faster.
You do not need to be referred by your doctor to see a homeopath and it is not necessary for you to tell
your doctor that you are seeing a homeopath, unless you want to. However, in some cases, it may be helpful
for your doctor to know what other treatments you are receiving.
