Corporate Information
Regardless if you work in an office, a factory or outdoors our bodies need to be able to cope with
the physical demands placed upon them.
An Osteopath can review your working environment and assess the demands placed upon you physically and
advise regarding appropriate and proportional action to prevent muscular & skeletal injuries from
occurring, or to help their resolution if an employee is already in discomfort.
"
The burden of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) to employers and workplaces is significant; and the most
important cost to employers and society is lost time from work"
HSE, 2006
Benefits to the Employee
"
....Interventions that are strongly focused on returning the individual to work improve participants’
chances of returning to full time duties and staying at work"
Durand & Loisel 2001
By consulting an Osteopath, it suggests to your employer you are being pro-active in resolving your problem.
You will be provided a diagnosis, the first stage of fully understanding and resolving the problem, a
management plan including a realistic time frame from which to work.
In the majority of cases the management plan will involve treatment; self management advice including an
appropriate exercise regime; advice regarding life style changes (For example, Modifying activities at home).
In some cases and where appropriate, management may involve onward referral if necessary to other health care
practitioners (For example a podiatrist or Doctor etc).
If necessary your Osteopath can provide you with an off work certificate, and can liaise with both Human
Resources / Occupational Health to formulate an appropriate and realistic return to work schedule.
Benefits to the Employer
"
Organisations that employ strategies to improve work-place ergonomics have found that
musculoskeletal-disorders (resulting in lost work time) were 3 times less likely to occur"
Schneider 1998
Through consulting an Osteopath employees gain an understanding of their problem, and why it has come about.
With an accurate diagnosis and management plan instigated early on in the proceedings employees are likely
to have timely resolution of their symptoms, and are less likely to develop towards chronic, longer term
problems which can ultimately result in more days lost in industry due to illness.
At Cricklade Road Practice we are more than happy to work with the employee, HR and Occupational health to
devise an appropriate action plan to get employees back into the work place in an appropriate time frame.
At Cricklade Road Practice we have practitioners registered with all the major health insurance companies
including BUPA, PPP etc. (Note A GP referral may be necessary for making claims on these policies)
